- If you make a mistake on your title a correction statement is not required to get a duplicate. You just take the title, registration and DL to the DMV and they can order a duplicate. Some states allow you to order a dupe online. In some states there is an expedited fee they can pay to get it the same day. Otherwise, it will be processed and mailed to the owner.
- Erasures and whiteouts automatically void a title and a correction statement will not fix that unfortunately. A new title is required.
- Some states do not even accept correction statements like NJ, NY and OH and a new title will be required.
- "Selling a car with a title that contains mistakes is generally not possible" ....it is very possible in most states except New York, New Jersey and Ohio, as the buyer needs a clear and accurate title to register the vehicle in their name. Therefore, it's essential to address any errors promptly to ensure a smooth transaction.
