Several Google searches are inquiries on Blue Title and its meaning. Just to clarify, several states officially have titles that are blue in color, Texas’ titles are blue, but is there something else behind the coined name of a ‘Texas Blue Title’.
While many states may have color coded based titles, Texas seems to have several colors which indicate the title status to a vehicle after an accident. To simplify concerns on what color is needed, a Blue Title is the preferred everyday average title. This is the origin for titling in Texas, therefore, if your car has not had damage from the list below, a Blue Title is what an owner or the lender will hold as the legal document as proof of ownership to a vehicle.
Other Texas title colors and meanings are as follows.
Brown Title: This is a certified duplicate title which has been issued when the original title has been lost or damaged.
Orange Title: This is a non-repairable title, issued when the vehicle is beyond repair.
Purple (Dark Pink) Title: This is a salvage title, issued after a vehicle has been in an totaled accident, floor or fire.
While this answers the title colors in the state of Texas, please check with your local or state Motor Vehicle Division to obtain the correct information for your vehicle title. A blue title may mean something completely different in another state and be easily confusing with the differences.
Please note, to sell a vehicle, a proper title must be held by the seller or lender, and the title must be in the name of the selling party. If the title is not in a selling party's name, a transfer will most likely need to be made prior to selling. Still have questions and want to sell your vehicle?
